Compare luxury cosmetics using clear, relevant criteria

Three liquid foundations from light beige to brown, with swatches and a makeup brush.
An illustrative foundation represents comparing products intended for the same cosmetic purpose.

Make sure the products serve a comparable purpose

A meaningful comparison starts with products designed for the same task. With foundation, examine coverage, finish and shades; with moisturiser, consider texture, packaging and directions. Combining unrelated categories mostly produces a ranking of prices or brand recognition, which offers little help when choosing something you intend to apply regularly as part of your routine.

Decide how much each criterion matters to you

Rank your priorities before viewing results: comfort, ease of application, spending limit or refill availability. Apply the same criteria to every reference and identify missing information. A test result belongs to the method and formula evaluated; it does not automatically establish a universally best product for people with different preferences, routines and expectations.
