Preparation and finishing

Luxury makeup primers: finish and product compatibility

Three liquid foundations from light beige to brown, with swatches and a makeup brush.
An illustrative complexion bottle and texture suggest preparation before foundation without identifying a primer formula.

Giving preparation a specific objective

A primer may aim for a smoother-looking surface, added luminosity or a visible reduction in shine. Sophisticated makeup does not automatically make this step essential. First identify what is missing from the result achieved with skincare and foundation, then compare the functions actually claimed by products intended to address that difficulty.

Testing layers in their real sequence

Success depends on the product combination as well as the primer in isolation. Allow earlier steps to settle and notice whether the formula pills, moves or changes coverage. Application limited to selected areas may be enough; covering the entire face with several primers does not automatically improve overall makeup wear.
