Responsible cosmetic formulas: comparing the evidence

Ask which requirement the formula actually meets

Responsible formulation is a broad expression that may concern raw-material sourcing, processing or packaging. To compare cosmetics, look for an identifiable standard and product-specific information. COSMOS distinguishes ORGANIC and NATURAL signatures; their presence does not mean a formula automatically meets every environmental or ethical expectation you may have when choosing a cosmetic.

Separate composition, company commitments and actual use

A company commitment does not necessarily certify every reference, and organic composition alone does not describe transport or the amount used. Examine each piece of evidence separately. The chosen formula should also suit its purpose: repeatedly replacing unsuitable products may work against the intention to limit purchases and the resources associated with them.
